Newport Mansions needed wayfinding on the grounds of their flagship Breakers property to support their latest landscape renovations, further positioning the mansion as an international destination.

Approached as a contemporary take on the Gilded Age mansion interior, bronze and gold signs nestle quietly among the landscape to encourage exploration and to make key destinations easier to locate, easing pressure on staff and contributing to a refined (but friendly) experience. OverUnder also deployed large entry signs at other significant Newport Mansions properties.

Drawing on the history of using acorns to represent the Vanderbilt family, every sign in the family is lined with a gold band containing this motif

The Vanderbilt family motto

An orientation map at the main entry provides the context for your visit

Mapping likely paths of travel and significant decision points assured proper sign placement. And rigorous testing of messaging content foregrounded the user experience

Laurentian Green granite was deployed at the bases to emerge seamlessly from the matching pavers
