OverUnder led a citywide wayfinding master plan in collaboration with the City of Medford’s Planning, Development, and Sustainability Department. Through detailed analysis and an extensive engagement process, we developed a framework of better-defined districts, key destinations, and a network of routes and nodes. Despite Medford being made up of 25% open space, we found that most visitors weren't aware of significant places like Middlesex Fells and the abundance of parks found along the river. Another consistent goal of the project was how to best encourage walkability among visitors and residents alike. Custom maps at various scales were created to be deployed on signage in the districts.

The flexible and cost-effective sign family utilizes "Medford Blue" — a color already embraced by residents as representing both the Mystic River and Medford High School. Icons for attractions feature prominently on wayfinding signs. Design standards and guidelines round out the master plan, providing the City with the necessary tools for future implementation.
