The New Jeddah Souqs will be a large-scale commercial district at the heart of the port city of Jeddah. Designed to accommodate both retail and wholesale market shoppers, it consists of a lively network of restaurants, shops, offices, hotels, public amenities, and activities. It is easily accessible for residents of the north and the south of the city as well as those coming from Mecca or Medina. While evocative of the city’s rich heritage, the project is expressive of its contemporary ambitions and is intended to appeal to the younger generation of Saudis.

The project is divided into eleven blocks of mat building, with a consistent ground floor and three upper levels. Five towers of hotels and long-stay apartments punctuate the massing. While each block caters to a different sector of Jeddah’s commerce, the ground floor throughout the project is devoted to the most public uses (restaurants, cafes, retail stores) while the upper floors contain programs that attract less foot traffic (wholesalers, offices, hotels, etc).
