South End Townhouse
OverUnder renovated the exterior and transformed the interior of this nineteenth-century rowhouse in one of Boston’s landmark districts. Exterior work included rebuilding an existing extension off the back with salvaged brick and new materials as well as inserting a wooden projecting bay that reflects the standards of the landmark district while using contemporary detailing. Inside the palate creates airy, light-filled spaces using lye-washed Douglas fir for flooring and millwork. A skylight illuminates the multi-floor staircase, which is detailed to float off the walls and fabricated from blackened steel with glass guardrails.
